(no subject)

Well, the housemate left today. Basically, this means 1) no more yummy food :( and 2) more Internet time for me :) It's weird - I've probably had about a week total alone in this place. Still, I'm being invaded by the raving hordes on thursday, so I won't have much time to get used to it.

As far as real life goes, despite the fact that it is showing an amazing ability to limit my online activities, nothing much is happening. Well, my friends seem to be having a pretty eventful time, but me? Not so much. This is probably a good thing, when I think about it.

Thoughts on First of all, let me say I liked this movie. In fact, I've seen it twice, and considering my extreme state of brokeness at the moment, this means something. And I haven't read the GN, mostly because you can count the number of GN's I've read in my entire life on the fingers of one hand. Portman was quite good, but Weaving was amazing. As was the detective (mind blank, can't remember the name) - I hear the character is not as sympathetic in the GN, but I liked the fact that not all the Government enforcer types were stereotypically evil.

All that said, I think they did get a bit heavy handed with the Nazi/Hitler/Big Brother symbolism. I mean, when the fact that the government is evil and corrupt and all is the point of the story, you don't really need to bend over backwards to cram in every visual and symbolic allusion you can think of.

On another note, I find the whole V is/isn't a terrorist thing amusing and kinda irritating at the same time. This is mostly because everyone on the terrorist side seems to be saying "OMG he blew up a building, he is a terrorist", and the non-terrorists "But only after giving a year of warning, and besides, only the evil people would be there anyway, and besides, he's so cool!", which to me rather misses the point. The goal of a terrorist is, by definition (or by my definition, anyway :P) is someone who is trying to create and instill terror, in both the general population and the government. While V would certainly be happy to discover that the government is having nightmare about him, his primary purpose seems to be to inspire the population, not terrorise them. Anyway, food for thought.

Double episode of Supernatural tonight. Or not, since the second one was a repeat. Stupid channel ten. Still, they are partially forgiven, because the new episode had Darla in it. In an ironically similar situation to one she ended up in on Angel, so I spent the episode going "No, don't worry, she can just go to LA and hook up with Angel/Lindsay, and it'll be all good." Guess I kind of missed the poignancy there :)

Random Observation of the Day - You just can't see the Operative the same way when you've heard him singing "I want to be Evil"

Hee, wasn't V for Vendetta wonderful? Weaving is super-hero/bullet time god.

Oh, absolutely. I have another group of friends who are supposed to be going to see it tonight, but alas, my stupid course gave me homework, and I must do that instead. Plus, broke.

Did you notice how in the ad break they had a preview of next week which I say has vampires, but Amy's still a sceptic. And they lied to us! Lied! Said it was 'next' when it's really next week! >.<

btw, loqia says that Cirque du Soleil coming next March! :D

Yeah, I was annoyed. Stupid 10 (Did I say that already?)

Oohhh, Cirque du Soleil! We have to go.

Hehehe I can read these spoilers now. That movie was so good. So-oo-oo-oo enjoyable. I sang its glories for much of the ride home, it had me all excited I couldn't work on my essay any more =P

BIG 'SPLOSIONS WITH THE 1812 OMG YAY!! After that first 'splosion I was won. Natalie Portman acted well, I suppose it helps when your fellow cast gives you proper support and the script doesn't hurt either. Ugh, except when V spieled that first 'V' diatribe (stupid, stupid self-promoting garble) -- coupled with that awesome domino track we concluded that for a man planning a revolution, he has wa-aa-ay too much time on his hands. But hey -- he's still a sexy, sexy man in black with a cool wig and mask, so we'll forgive his self-love.

I have this picture in my mind of V giggling as he constructs that huge domino track of his own insignia, because he's so pleased with himself. I'm surprised they settle on "Cry Me a River" for his theme and didn't make him a proper super-hero "V for Vengeance, Victory and Vendetta!" theme song. I like this movie and when it comes out on DVD I vant to make it mine! ^-^

I didn't mind the opening bit - I sat there going WTF? but the second time you knew what to expect.

Explosions + 1812 = Love. Except I thought they did a shoddy mixing job on the music - jump into the middle of the climax for about 10 seconds, then jump to the finale - not smooth at all.

And the dominos - just nerves, you know. Planning a revolution is a serious business, but everyone needs to let off steam somehow, but when you are stuck in your little art museum all day, you develop some strange hobbies :P

He does some cool knife work, I'll give him that. I'm sorry, V just sounds like too many guys in my English tutorials (on a dark, spooky night when you've just been saved from lascivious government goons, the effect's a bit different), it was the only point in the film where he really bothered me.

Yeah, the jump was a bit too obvious, we can blame the editors.

Speaking of strange hobbies: strangling yourself with the hand of a suit of armour is not the highest recommended way to win a girl. =P
