Wohoo! Thanks to a wonderful workmate, I have the Christmas Invasion. Now all I have to do is find time to watch it... (And yes, I realise that still puts me at least two episodes behind the UK *sigh*)

I also bought the first season of Babylon 5 today, from the second hand store. I really have no idea what it's about, but I've heard very good things. And I have a borrowed copy of the first season of Andromeda, not to mention the rest of MacGyver to watch. So many DVDs, so little time.

SCI FI Announces Caprica

NEW YORK—SCI FI Channel announced the development of Caprica, a spinoff prequel of its hit Battlestar Galactica <http://w>, in presentations to advertisers in New York on April 26. Caprica would come from Galactica executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, writer Remi Aubuchon (24) and NBC Universal Television Studio.

Caprica would take place more than half a century before the events that play out in Battlestar Galactica. The people of the Twelve Colonies are at peace and living in a society not unlike our own, but where high technology has changed the lives of virtually everyone for the better.

But a startling breakthrough in robotics is about to occur, one that will bring to life the age-old dream of marrying artificial intelligence with a mechanical body to create the first living robot: a Cylon. Following the lives of two families, the Graystones and the Adamas (the family of William Adama, who will one day become the commander of the Battlestar Galactica), Caprica will weave together corporate intrigue, techno-action and sexual politics into television's first science fiction family saga, the channel announced.

I'm cautiously hopeful, if it goes ahead. Even if the timeline looks a little dodgy.

Coupla questions for you:

1. Anyone know the ancient greek translation for 'awake'? So far, we've found 'egeiro' and 'gregoreuo' - Any ancient Greek scholars out there who want to offer any alternatives or opinions?

2. Purely hypothetical question - If I happened to have possibly, maybe written some Firefly fanfic, (very short, post-Serenity), would anyone want to read it?

Random Observation of the Day - Terry Nation, creator of the Daleks, was the Producer for MacGyver

The BSG spin-off sounds like a good idea, I didn't actually manage to keep up with the main series - the episodes were always running while I was at work :s Then again that's not all that surprising really...

Looking forward to purusing the DVD selection with you at some point.

Oh and yeah... purely & hypothetically you'd possibly maybe have to get your arse into gear and give me the goods on Firefly god damnit!! =D

Hope work's treating you well mate

Ooh definitely yes for the BSG spin-off - if they can keep the quality up, then the more good sci fi shows the better! And speaking of which, I'd love to read some Firefly fic! Bring it on :-D

Well, I have the miniseries and first season - when we get done with stargate, I'll show you. And when I get done watching everything else...

Work has improved, now I actually have something to do.

Yeah, That's what I figured. But I know some people, who are far more into BSG than I am, seem more doubtful than please. I guess it just depends how much you've invested in the show - you worry about how much more chance this will give them to screw it up!

And the Firefly fic - maybe later today, if I can find the courage. I have no problem posting icons, but the thought of posting fic scares me.

Ooh, Captain Tightpants icon *grins*

You might get the fic later today, if I can find the courage. Patience is a virtue :)

Speaking of fics, I was trying to think of some Star Wars recs for you, but I'm not sure what you like in SW, or what you've read. I assume you've read the stuff by [profile] user/mina, and Kitt's 'Force Bond' series? There's also a few good stories going/just finished on the L/V list (don't be confused by the slash, it's a gen list mostly), if you're not a member I can find you links. Apart from that, I've been finding it a bit of a SW OT gen drought recently.

Damn, not sure what happened to that username. Her username is "vikkir" on lj, anyway. *Glares at lj for eating my coding*

*blushes* No, I'm pretty new to LJ, and I haven't strayed far from the cozy confines of the Supernatural fandom, so I haven't read those SW stories you mention. What is the L/V list? I guess I need to start from the ground up, so rec me any recs you want, I'm virgin territory (so to speak *g*).

You all do want to read her fic, I've read it and its good.
Also, I have acess to her computer, so if she does not hurry up and post it, i will. then you can all tell her how good it is.

*Evil cackle* OK, here goes...

The L/V list is Luke_Vader at yahoo groups - go here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Luke_Vader/ to join. There's smoe very good stuff on there, and also some not so good stuff, but generally a lot better quality than you find on the rest of the net.

Kitt's Force Bond series is an AU, where Luke gets raised by Vader. Very good, quite funny. Her profile on FFN is here - http://www.fanfiction.net/u/56197/ , name of Kittandchips. She also has a website, but I can't find the link at the moment.

Other authors to look for on FFN include Valerie Vancollie, and Moyima. Basically, if you get onto their recs page, you should be able to navigate round most of the worthwhile stuff.

Oh, and [profile] vikkir has stuff on her lj and also on FFN, as Mina 1. Some very good stuff, but she also writes L/V slash, so watch the warnings if that ain't your cup of tea.

I have a whole lot more, but that lot should get you started :)

Awake as in insomniac, or awake as in not asleep? The former is agrupnos. I don't know any other words meaning awake.

Thanks, I'll pass it on. I'll admit, I was hoping you'd chime in on this one, but you haven't been round much lately. Hope everything is OK.
