It's Official: Stargate Universe is new series.

I wonder what their definition of a 'younger demographic' is? And is it wrong to suspect that this is just code for '18-25 male' demographic? Especially with "creators Wright and Cooper plan to “break new ground in the relationships between mostly young and desperate explorers, thrust together and far from home”.

Huh.

Better late

OK, so remember how a couple of weeks ago, there was that drabble meme? And how I wrote most of them on the weekend I did it, but lack of Quality LJ time prevented me from posting? Well, here's the first lot. Better late than never, I suppose. (In my defence, life has been hectic, yadda yadda yadda... never changes. *sigh*)

Since I'm procrastinating right now, it's interview meme time.

So, there you go :)

All I can say is OMG. Wow. I think I have completely fallen in love with the Master - Evil hasn't look this fun since... well, ever.

And I think I almost went into cardiac arrest at the multiple billowing coats shots... *dies*

Also - a couple of points )

It's really nice to be breathlessly waiting for the next episode of a show. I haven't felt this way for a while - I'd almost forgotten the mix of anticipation and frustration you get with a good cliffhanger.

On SG-1: All old, new and lapsed SG-1 fen should check out [personal profile] katie_m's Quotedumps. A wonderful, laugh-out-loud trip down memory lane, courtesy of the sardonic wit of the SG-1 fans themselves.

Didn't think I'd let this pass without comment did you?

It's odd that it's over, after so long. While I am not totally devastated by the show's ending, I still got chills watching the start of the credits.

Spoilers for 'Unending' )

That's it, I guess - apart from the movies, and the fanfic, and the discussions... so not over at all, really :)

For those of you who haven't downloaded anything (completely legal anythings, of course) from megaupload, they prompt you to enter a 3 letter code before letting you get to the goodies.

My three letter code? RDA. I wish he was available for downloading

I need a Jack icon.

Since I got tagged - 'Write out any (as many as you'd like) plots/story-ideas (from any fandom) that you would LIKE to write, but can't seem to fully realize. You don't have to give away plot points, just a general idea.' )

On the topic of fic, [profile] redbyrd_sgfic has a couple of new-to-the-web fics up. I recommend checking them out, but make sure you have a fair chunk of time free.

This evening has been spent photoshopping some 'reminder' notices for [profile] bob_ette. She says she'll notice them more with Dean and Sam on them, but I think she just wants an excuse to have pictures of the Supernatural boys on the refridgerator. And the bathroom mirror. And the milk. Not that I mind, since it meant I spent the last hour or so staring at a picture of a very nice looking Dean...

I also have a few SG-1 and Dr Who icons in the works. Decided it was about time that I got a Daniel icon :)

You know, it's weird how I look for different things in different fandoms. Am I the only one who does this?

I mean, I'm into the Stargate SG-1 fandom purely for the fic, but I'm a sucker for Star Wars meta (although well written (OT, gen) fic is always good). Harry Potter was about half-and-half meta and fic, back when I was a big-time fan. Dr Who is great for the general squee! ness, but I don't really want to read fic for it, and Supernatural is all about the visual candy (OK, partly this is out of an attempt to stay unspoiled).

Thinking about it, I guess it mostly has to do with the way I relate to the source material. Stargate, for instance - Don't get me wrong, I love that show to pieces, but for it's potential, as well as what it is. When you combine the gaping plot holes, the inconsistent characterisation and character development, and the complete lack of resolution to most of the episodes, it's crying out for decent fanfic to fill in the gaps. Whereas Star Wars, prequels and all, doesn't have that feeling of incompleteness to me. I still love good 'missing moment' fics, but I don't really need them to get a sense of what the movies are saying (OK, maybe for the prequels...). On the other hand, I will go hunting for good meta concerning any of the characters, even the ones I don't particularly like, just to see other peoples interpretations.

I don't even know if that makes sense, but it's after midnight, and I have to be up in 6 hours.

Spent the majority of my time at work today trying to explain the concept of Mary Sues to people with little or no fandom experience, via email. Was probably the most interesting conversation I've had at work. I did back away from addressing the question of slash, though.

As promised, some Star Wars media for you. Icons and Wallpapers, Clone Wars and OT based.

The Icons )

The Wallpapers )

You were going to get some Supernatural and Battlestar Icons (points at userpic), but I think this post is about to sink under the weight of the images, so I'll put them up tomorrow.

Say what you will about christians, you gotta love Easter. 4 day weekend, and chocolate to boot.

To celebrate the end of the weekend, I bring you... Wallpapers. It's not chocolate, but it's the best I can do, over the internet.

Because I have yet to figure out how to do the small-image-linking-to-large-image thing, and I am still labouring under the deulsion that someone may want to use these, the full size images are under the cut. But because I don't want to overload people's internet connection, I've split these up into two posts. First up - Supernatural (Dean - 1280x854), Stargate (Sam as Repli-carter-1280x854), Dark Crystal (1024x768) and V for Vendetta (1280x854). If anyone wants different resolutions, let me know, and I'll see what I can do.

Edit - Think I've fixed the size thing now. Seems that when photobucket decided to increase the max file size, it decreased mine. *sigh* Fingers crossed.

Warning - image heavy. But click anyway, you know you want too...  )

As always, opinions welcomed. Think they suck? Let me know. Think they don't suck? Let me know that too.

Star Wars wallpapers and miscellaneous icons coming tomorrow - photobucket seems to be currently unhappy with me.

So, I've just spent the last 2 days wasting my time and taxpayers money at a completely useless training course. The one worthwhile moment of the entire thing came after we had retired to the hotel bar after the end of the course, in the form of an acedote from one of my fellow graduates. (Context: we had been discussing the tendency of our bosses to give us any random job they happen to think of, without considering whether or not we have any idea how to do it)

"It could be worse. My brother's a doctor, and one day he mentioned to his lecturer he was worrying about what would happen if someone asked him to do something he had know idea how to do, or surgery he had never tried before. His lecturer turned to him and said: "Just do it. Confidence = Competence."

You know, this explains a lot about the medical profession :) At least in the public service, we just go by "Bullshit baffles brains".

I want new Stargate stories. Even more, I want new team-but-slightly-Daniel-and-Jack-centric GEN stories. Is that too much to ask?

Good News!

Wow - so relieved at the moment.

After explaining the situation to my lecturer, they've said that I can use my group certificate as proof of employment for my work experience report. *heaves massive sigh of relief*

You have no idea how much less stressed I feel.

Plus, this arvo's presentation (on Bosch etching, if anyone cares) is consistently clocking in on time, so that is nice :) Still needs work, but it is passable now.

Then , when I was checking my mail, I saw the notice that Stargate SG-1 has been picked up for a 10th season! *does happy dance*
And yes, so was Atlantis - no word on BSG at the mo, but they would be crazy to cancel it, its their highest rating show.

So, all is right with both my real-life and fandom worlds.

Trying to wipe the massive grin of my face, but it's not working.

: D

:-)

;-P

Nope, still there : D
Oh well.

Oh, and if anyone is wondering, I tried ringing Mr Personnel manager again this morning. This time he'd gone into town.

Random Observation of the Day - Isn't it nice when things just work?

Had a nap - so much more awake now. Which may be a problem, since its almost 11:30. Oh well.

Since I have quite a few things feel like saying at the moment, and some of them are quiet spoilery, I figured I would get adventurous and try lj-cuts.

Cut the first - Serenity Australian Box Office )

I've been lurking about a lot of Serenity/Firefly boards this past week, and I'm suprised at the backlash that Joss is getting from some fans about some of the events in the movie. Which prompted me to write this rant... Here be spoilers )

Oh, and Bob/ette sent me some Joss Whedon interviews today. Very cool (even if one of them was named 'Joss Wheaton' - Mmm, Joss, the amazing chocolate Wheaton LOL) One of them had 'We attack the major with homus' line, which is one of my all time faves. *big grin*

Gateworld

I have a new picture - isn't he so cute? Kinda like a less orange Bert.

I should be writing my essay, but instead, I'm...not. So I was checking all my sites, looking for something that would require immediate attention and provide a nice distraction, and I finally got round to checking Gateworld.net. Given the mood, I am in at the moment, this was not perhaps the wisest of things to do.

GateWorld's editorial bias towards Atlantis is starting to really annoy me. Case in point - Every week they do a summary of the ratings for SG-1, Atlantis, and BG (which I have to start watching again). And the headlines are consistently designed to make it appear that atlantis is significantly out-performing SG-1. When A does do better, the headlines are along the lines of "Atlantis leads August 26 ratings - Stargate Atlantis surged ahead in the ratings race to take the crown". However, if SG-1 'wins' - and what kind of stupid term is that, anyway? This isn't a competition, last time I checked - its "Close ratings for September 9 SCI FI Friday - Only fractions of a ratings point separated", ignoring the fact that only fractions of points always separates them - in fact, due to the design of the ratings systems, fractions of points only separate pretty much anything. ARrrghh.

And all this ignores that fact that SG-1 has the 'lower rated' timeslot, and also consistently (read - every week) outperforms both the other shows in the later night reruns (and by significantly more than just a 'fraction of a point')!

I guess the real reason this is bugging me so much today is that I'm in a generally bad mood, (and I just finished reading a whole lot of similarly negative posts on another list I am on, which kept referring to 'Farscape Fans' as if they were the modern equivalent of lepers) but honestly, the overwhelming negativity in the StarGate fandom is starting to bug me. If you don't like it, don't watch. It's that simple. And for gods sake, stop whinging about it to the majority of people who honestly still like it.

Rant over.

3 DAYS TIL SERENITY!! And I could obviously use some around now...
