Better late

OK, so remember how a couple of weeks ago, there was that drabble meme? And how I wrote most of them on the weekend I did it, but lack of Quality LJ time prevented me from posting? Well, here's the first lot. Better late than never, I suppose. (In my defence, life has been hectic, yadda yadda yadda... never changes. *sigh*)

Title: Babel
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Wordcount: 100
Notes: For [personal profile] seldear, who wanted "Sam and Daniel being geeky". It turned out more angsty than geeky, sorry. Consider this post-'Threads', if you will.

"The maximum height of a tower is proportional to the width of the base."

Sam's jello tower wobbled. "Daniel?"

"I translated Babylonian architectural treatises in school." Daniel slide in beside her, rested his books on the table. Sam damped the vibrations with her spoon.

"They also thought if you built a tall enough tower you could talk to the gods."

Sam choked back her laugh before it became a sob. "Do you think there are any gods worth the effort?"

A pause. Daniel lifted her jello tower onto the top of his stack of books.

"We haven't met them all."

Title: Charades
Fandom: Star Wars
Word Count: 100
Notes: For [profile] _bluebells, who wanted "Han attempting to communicate with R2 without C3-P0 there to translate."

The droid chirped cheerfully. Han resisted the urge to blast it into scrap; Luke would be annoyed.

Han gritted his teeth. "I. Don't. Speak. Astromech! At least point in the general direction."

The droid paused, then spun madly on its axis. The warbling became more frantic.

OK – apparently pointing was out. Which left plan B.

"You know where she is? Beep once for yes."

Beep.

Han sighed. If anyone had ever told him he would be reduced to playing charades with an astromech to find his wife….

"How many words?"

That romantic dinner was looking less likely by the second.

Title: Priorities
Fandom: Supernatural
Word Count: 100
Notes: For [personal profile] deirdre_c, who wanted "Dean geeking out about Star Wars and Sam mocking him". This is sort of two mini-mini fics in one... hope you don't mind.

Once, long ago, Dean convinced Sam the Star Wars cards from the cereal were part of a summoning ritual for aliens; unless Sam gave them to Dean for exorcism he would be eaten by the Sarlacc. Their father was furious.

"Tickets to what?"

"The premiere of Revenge of the Sith."

"Are you out of your mind?!"

"Think, Sammy! Geeks, freaks and weirdos lining up in the dark, blood stinking with caffeine and salt and all that other shit. It's an all-you-can-eat Srgathyak bar!"

"We can stake out the line without watching the movie."

"Gotta do the job right, Sammy."

I must dig out those SPN recs that I was sent. SPN may turn out to be like X-Files for me: I never could watch the show, but the fanfic was pretty awesome...

I thought I was the only person on LJ that never watched the X-files...

I love SPN (most of the time), but it would be a whole lot better if they left out the scary bits - at least anything with ghosts! And there is some pretty awesome fic for the show out there.

Yes. The main problem with SPN (as far as I'm concerned) is navigating around the Wincest. Which I can understand to a certain extent, but which I don't really want to read. :/

Granted, I don't read a lot in SPN fandom (that whole 'lack of time' thing), but I generally find most people are reasonably good about labelling Wincest. Still it can be hard to find the more gen-oriented places on LJ.

Have you read any of [profile] kellifer_fic's stuff? If my memory serves me correctly, she writes mostly gen/non-wincest SPN fic (and SG-1 and SGA as well, I believe).

Psst try spn_het_love, no Wincest, it's all het with a little gen thrown in for variety.

Thank you! Will check it out!

I loves them all; very IC! The first one is beautiful, R2 and Han really made me laugh (ya-aa-ay!) and the third one brought back some great memories of geeks, freaks and standing in the blinding cold at 11PM praying Lucas wouldn't break my heart.

Ahahhaaaa!! I LOVE it! (I love all three, but mine is gold!)

Of course Dean would insist on the premiere! :D:D:D

Glad you liked it! That one was lots of fun to write - especially with my fond memories of lining up all night in the freezing cold to see that movie :P

These are great! Love Sam and Daniel - and Han not blasting Artoo because Luke would be annoyed - heh.

Thanks! Come to think of it, I'd love to read a fic where Han had to explain to Luke why his droid was in pieces...

Oh poor Artoo! Han's attempt at charades is great! :D

Thanks! I don't think Artoo is going to be invited to Solo/Skywalker-family charades nights any time soon.

Poor guy. He's probably considered a charades master among droids. The humans just don't understand. ;)

I like this! I also can easily believe Daniel would know something of engineering from archaeology.

I'm glad you liked it :) I think Daniel is the kind of guy that has all these interesting little tidbts of information, picked up from translations, stored away in the back of his mind in case one day they are useful.
