Two updates in two days! Incredible. Now that I've finally got a computer for more than 15 minutes, I should be writing job applications (due the day I leave here). Only one problem with that plan, as I just discovered - this computer DOESN'T HAVE WORD installed. Now, while I am all for attempting to break free of the shackles of Microsoft, there is a time and a place, and this is not it. They don't have any word processing software at all. So, now I'm updating LJ, and trying to convince myself that I didn't want that position anyway.

Now, where did I get up to? . We got there about 6pm, and after checking into a B&B (very nice, but the bathroom was a part of the actual room - the shower and toilets in a carpeted area, separated from the beds by about a foot and some slightly transparent tab-top curtains... odd), we went for a walk in the village, down by the river. It was the sunset of an incredible day, but the park was almost deserted. Unfortunately, both [profile] kasneeze and I had left our camera's in our room, so I can't show you how beautiful it was. we had a very nice dinner at an Indian restaurant (The Coconu Lagoon, in case anyone is looking for recommendations), and then we went back and I finished eating my easter egg - Did I mention that I got a TARDIS easter egg from [profile] kasneeze? I got her a Spongebob one. Very cool - and went to sleep. Six-Seven hours driving on motorways can take it out of a girl, you know :)

The next day we went back into the village, and wandered around for a while. We went to Shakespeare's Birthplace, but didn't have time to see any of the other Shakespeare houses.

Before we left, we went back to the park. It was completely full of people, I guess because it was a bank holiday. Normally hordes of people annoy me (one of the reason's I found Westminister Abbey somewhat underwhelming), but this time the entire place had such a cheerful, fair-like atmosphere, so I didn't mind (well, at least until we got stuck in the traffic when we were leaving - but that's another story).

And then the Morris Dancers showed up. It's an... interesting way for grown men to spend their time, but then I guess there are people who say that about people who dress up in Star Wars costumes for fun :) It was very cool to watch, and I got some OK pictures, so I'll post them when I have the chance.

Then it was on to Oxford. We didn't have much time there, but we did get to see Christ Church. The grand hall was closed (being used to clean pictures, apparently), but we did get to look in. It was smaller than I was expecting, after the movies :) And we walked down the staircase also in the HP movies, which was also a lot smaller than I thought. The magic of the silver screen, I guess. Or perhaps they shot the scene from a distance using midgets to make the place look bigger :)

We did get to go into the church itself. While we were there, the choir came in and started rehersing. It must be incredible distracting, trying to practice when scores of tourists are standing around watching and try to take pictures of you.

Stayed the night in Oxford, and left early in the morning to go to Bath, which is where I am right now. Wandered around the town centre, and went into the roman baths. Very impressive, when you think about how long the baths have been there, even though the majority of the buildings date from the victorian era. I didn't realise the Baths had such a religious element to them.

Tomorrow we are going back to London, via Salisbury and Stonehenge. We leave the day after that. I can't believe the trip is almost over, but I'll almost glad to be going home - it's been a blast, but I've been sightseeing solidly for almost a month know, and I'm really tired. Of course, when I'm home I have to go straight back to work, but I refuse to think about that right now.

If you can install software on the computer, OpenOffice is free, and handles Word .doc files quite well. I used it at work for several months while my employers were getting their heads out of their collective asses getting Office functional on my work machine.

::notes restaurant recommendation::

You had never seen Morris dancers? *blinks* Geez, the northeastern US is infested with them...of course I go to a lot of folk music festivals with dancing so I'm likely to see them.

Ooh I loved Bath.. great museum, also the Building of Bath museum, which talked about the construction of the city when it was a hot new resort.

I'll be eager to hear about Salisbury- I'm going to be there in May.

I've never seen a Morris Dancer before. You can educate me when you get back.

The bathroom of that B&B sounds a little strange. Did you and [livejournal.com profile] kasneeze get separate rooms?

Oh, take pictures of you both at Stonehenge so I can see the scale! :D

No, can't install anything. I don't think it's even running a full, normal operating system (some kind of reduced version of windows, I think).

No, I've never seen Morris Dancers. I don't even think they exist in Australia, since no one else I know has seen them either, even at folk festivals.

Will tell you all about it.
