The iPod is Dead. Long Live the iPod.

Yes, folks, you heard that right. My brand new shiny less-than-one-month-old ipod is DEAD. *wails*
When I went to plug my iPod in to my computer last night (4am) half the screen died. Not good. It finished the update but then didn't charge. Also not good.
Took the iPod to the Mac shop and gave it to the technician. He fiddled around with it for a while, trying to get it to work, and then reformatted it. Still not working (though how he thought reformatting the HD would fix the screen, I have no idea).
While he was futzing around with the iPod, he suddenly stopped and gave me an accusing glare, before pointing out that the surface was scratched, and I needed to buy a cover.
Mate, whether or not the surface is scratched, it's rather beside the point since the iPod IS NOT WORKING. Maybe it's just me, but I see this as a more immediate problem. Still, his point is well-taken, since I have been meaning to buy a cover for a while. Only problem, I haven't been able to find one. I mention this to him.
"Oh," he says "We just got some in today." Just - Arrggh. There are no other words.
After he messes around with my poor broken iPod for a while, he agrees that yes, it is broken. Finally, He says they will send it away and get a replacement. At this point I am rather relieved, since I have no clue where the receipt is - present, remember? - and he hasn't asked for any proof of purchase or anything. Then he says I can pick up the replacement in one or two weeks. This is a problem, since I am leaving town on thursday, so I ask if it can be posted to me. It costs $20 to get it posted out, but the bloke reckons it'll be faster (and cheaper) if I go to the support website, print out a service form thingy, and send it in myself.
So I go home and jump on the internet. After searching their damn site for over half an hour, I came to the conclusion that this form doesn't exist. However, since I am conducting this entire exercise while both stressed and sleep deprived, I figured that it is probably right in front of my face and I'm just not seeing it.
Righto, they have a service number on their website, so I gave that a call, figuring that they should be able to direct me to this amazing non-existent form.
Big mistake. After getting put on hold, and playing the "Press 2 for ..." game for 10 or so minutes, I finally get a person. They proceeded to tell me they needed details of the receipt before they would do anything.
At this point, I hung up the phone. A tad violently. So violently, in fact, that I broke the hanging-up bit. (Yes, I'm a telecomms engineer, can't you tell?). Then the entire phone fell off the shelf. And landed on the corner of my printer. And broke the keypad.
After throwing a not-so-minor temper tantrum in my room, I calmed down enough to go get a replacement phone. And then headed over to the Mac shop, gave them $20, and told them I did not want to have to deal with anyone until my iPod arrived on my doorstep.
So ends the saga of Menhir, my ill-fated iPod.
RIP.
On the other hand, the rest of the day has been decidedly better. Caught up with lot of people, and said goodbyes before everyone scatters for the holidays.
Oh, and I got Revenge of the Sith over the weekend. Expect some deep and meaningful thoughts on it, when I get a) enough sleep, and b) enough time to write them down. I also got volume one of the Clone Wars. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life. Watch it. Now. I have the next 5 episode sitting here on my computer, waiting to be watched. I think I should do that now, in fact.
Random Observation of the Day - Some days, it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. But then you get more Clone Wars, and then it does :)

Date: 2005-11-14 12:44 pm (UTC)Mine would be something along the lines of 'Some days, it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. And days on which you must study for Latin exams are among them.'
:-D

Date: 2005-11-15 10:55 am (UTC)And I would never sit on my iPod. It may get trodden on, or dropped, or accidently thrown across the room. But I wouldn't SIT on it :)
