SG-1/Smallville Picspam
Jun. 18th, 2006 08:35 pmWell, I was watching an episode of Smallville, and Paul McGillion (otherwise known as Dr Carson Beckett) had a minor (as in very minor - about 2 minutes of screen time and a few muttered apologies) role, complete with accent. This is cool, but not particularly noteworthy. Until you get further into the show, and realise that one of the baddies in the same episode is non other than Major Paul Davies himself. With very... interesting hairstyle.
But I'll get to that in a minute. First, to illustrate my point:

Here's Beckett, looking a tad nervous. I guess getting yelled at by Lex Luthor would do that to you.

Here's Major Davies, in civies. With the hair.

You can see the hair clearer now. Looks like someone tried to drown him by dipping him headfirst in a vat of bleach, but pulled out at the last minute.

But even though he's being all civilian-like, he still has a gun, so all is good.
So, what could explain the presence of Beckett and Davies both in Smallville/Metropolis at the same time? Obviously, they are working undercover for the SGC. Why? Well, obviously the SGC got word of all the weird things happening in Smallville, including super-strong people who's eyes have a tendency to glow on occasion (Yes, Mr Kent, I am talking about you). So, since SG-1 is busy handling some off-world crisis, they send in their next best crack team, Beckett and Davies, to investigate.
Beckett goes in first and infiltrates Lexcorp by posing as a mild mannered accountant/lawyer/whatever he actually was, so he can pass information on to Davies (cunningly disguised by the funky hair and lack of uniform), who has similarly infiltrated a group of Very Bad Men, who worked for Lex (briefly) before they decided to try and rob Luthercorp instead, and in the process managed to take Martha Kent hostage. Got that? Anyway, as soon as Beckett got out of the meeting/dressing-down/interrogation/ with Lex, he high-tailed it straight back to Metropolis to help his partner. Clark Kent also ran (literally) to Metropolis, to rescue his mother from the Bad Men. Unfortunately, since the Baddies Changed Their Plans, Beckett didn't get there in time to stop Davies being choked unconscious by Clark, who thought Davies was one of the Bad Men, and not a representative of the government sent to spy on him and/or Smallville in general.

(He looks so cute when he is choking...)
Clark then proceeded to beat up the baddies, rendering all that undercover work useless. Major Davies and Beckett went back to the SGC and told General Hammond that there was really no reason AT ALL to continue their investigation in Smallville, since everything happening there was Perfectly Normal, and any rumours of people with superpowers were Absolutely Ridiculous. Beckett and Davies got a commendation, and Davies spent a few weeks in hospital waiting for the swelling to go down so he could eat again.
This theory also has the added benefit of explaining how Beckett got chosen for the Atlantis mission - not only is he a superb scientist, he had also proven his worth in the field.
See? Everything Fits. Seriously.
