Am off to the dentist.

HELP! Wish me luck.

ETA: OK, I survived. Actually, it went better than I expected. After waiting outside the building for half an hour (the DN managed to lock the door being her when she opened up, and hence neither I nor the receptionist(!) could get in) I walked straight in and saw the Dentist. He took one look at the x-ray I handed him, gave me a pair of hideous sunglasses to wear, and poked around in my mouth for a while, looking grim.

Me: Um, so?
Him: How do you feel about root canal?

As it turns out, I'm avoiding root canal by getting both the wisdom tooth and the back molar pulled. Cheaper, (hopefully) less painful, less potential problems in the future, and the other probably wouldn't work anyway. *sigh* OTOH, it looks like being a hell of a lot cheaper than I was expecting. Plus, the dentist was pretty cute.

Moral of the story - Get your wisdom teeth out ASAP, before they can screw up the rest of your teeth. At birth, if they can manage it. It'll save you so much pain and hassle.

I'm going to have to get two teeth pulled, but it should be a lot cheaper than I expected, so thats good, I guess.

Weird story, my wisdom teeth came in laying flat on hteir sides and corrected the gap in my teeth.

(Course, now I need them out, but that is just not happening until I get some kick ass insurance or win the lotto.

It's my wisdom teeth which are causing my problems, too. One is impacted and coming up underneath and to the side of a molar, causing much decay (and pain).

I don't have health insurance, but I'm hopefully getting out of this for far less than I was expecting (info I could find was saying anywhere between $1000-12,000 AUS. At that stage, I decided that a few grand payed for a hell of a lot of painkillers and I could just put up with it *g*). They are quoting me less than $500, so I'm a happy camper. Guess I found a cheap dentist :)

Offer to help

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Bottle of Vodka, couple of napkins and a plastic spoon and I'll have those teeth out in a second :P

Good luck with them, I'm sure you'll be looked after (just remember to finish your cake first)

I think I'll stick to the professional option, thanks.

Between me and [profile] bob_ette, the cake is finished. It was very nice - such a shame you couldn't have any :P

Dentists. Scariest and most painful things in existence. They should be employed as intimidation techniques for war captives.

Ouch, sending happy feelings your way over the pulled teeth. That sounds... very not fun.

I thought Evil!dentists were reserved for spies :P

Thanks for the happy feelings. It's getting to the point that I'm actually looking forward to going to the dentist, on the basis that short(ish) extreme pain is better than prolonged extreme pain.

I had all four of mine pulled- no choice- 1 came in at 90 degrees to correct orientation and the rest were pushing other teeth out of line.

May your extractions go as easily as mine did! (And if they offer you IV valium, say 'yes!'.. on that stuff, they could pull your arms off and you won't notice.)
