Cup musings...
Nov. 7th, 2006 11:18 pmI feel distinctly un-Australian today - I completely missed the Melbourne cup. Why? Because someone thought it would be a good idea to hold a course (in Brisbane) and then decided I had to go. Which means I've been up since 4:40am (stupid 6am flights), it's now 11pm, and I got a little over 2 hours sleep last night. I'm completely exhausted and still can't ge to sleep. I am so going to go in to work late tomorrow.
I've been back and forth between so many cities in the last few weeks I'm losing track. I was walking down the main street of Brisbane today, thinking it was Melbourne and wondering why there was no trams :)
Completely different note - you can tell that you work in an office full of guys when you dye your hair pink/purple (a darkish shade, but not natural by any stretch of the imagination), and no-one notices. I'm a bit irked, actually, I was expecting at least some sort of reaction, even if it was only 'What did you do to your hair?'

Date: 2006-11-07 12:47 pm (UTC)I normally pay some sort of vague attention to it, but this year I've just been otherwise occupied. My biggest complaint is that I missed my first public service Melbourne Cup day - there was a farewell morning tea starting at 10:30, then a Luncheon at one of the clubs at 12:30, which wouldn't have finished until well after the race was over... would have been the bludgiest day of the year, and instead I got to do a 16+ hour day. *sigh*

It's never to late! :) I thought my new career as a respectable public servant had destroyed my uni-habit of interesting coloured hair (favourite was purple/black with bright pink streaks - I even got a reaction from guys with that one!) and it's been boring-brown since, but it looks like I can get away with more than I thought :)
