I feel distinctly un-Australian today - I completely missed the Melbourne cup. Why? Because someone thought it would be a good idea to hold a course (in Brisbane) and then decided I had to go. Which means I've been up since 4:40am (stupid 6am flights), it's now 11pm, and I got a little over 2 hours sleep last night. I'm completely exhausted and still can't ge to sleep. I am so going to go in to work late tomorrow.

I've been back and forth between so many cities in the last few weeks I'm losing track. I was walking down the main street of Brisbane today, thinking it was Melbourne and wondering why there was no trams :)

Completely different note - you can tell that you work in an office full of guys when you dye your hair pink/purple (a darkish shade, but not natural by any stretch of the imagination), and no-one notices. I'm a bit irked, actually, I was expecting at least some sort of reaction, even if it was only 'What did you do to your hair?'

I was busy, too. Completely missed it, for like the first time in a long time. And I didn't care about it either. *sigh* Am very un-Australian.

We can be un-Australian together :)

I normally pay some sort of vague attention to it, but this year I've just been otherwise occupied. My biggest complaint is that I missed my first public service Melbourne Cup day - there was a farewell morning tea starting at 10:30, then a Luncheon at one of the clubs at 12:30, which wouldn't have finished until well after the race was over... would have been the bludgiest day of the year, and instead I got to do a 16+ hour day. *sigh*

Yep, those are definitely guys. If they noticed, they probably thought it was safer not to comment! My husband's take on guys and style: "Women notice what you're wearing. Guys notice whether you have clothes on or not."

Darn. Sounds like it would have been a fun day.

I was racing around trying to organise a Latin class. Fun.

Oooh. I'd love to see a picture of the pink hair! I've always wanted to dye my hair a non-natural shade, but I think it may be too late for me! :)

I'd take a picture, but I don't own a digital camera. Come to think of it, I have no idea where my normal camera is either...

The colour is 'Nepal', brand is Country Colours, if you feel like googling. Although the picture on the box is a little darker and more purplish/less pink than my hair turned out.

It's never to late! :) I thought my new career as a respectable public servant had destroyed my uni-habit of interesting coloured hair (favourite was purple/black with bright pink streaks - I even got a reaction from guys with that one!) and it's been boring-brown since, but it looks like I can get away with more than I thought :)

I want to see the hair!

[wibbles with jealousy over your ability to dye hair]

I didn't watch the Cup either - not a big fan of horse racing in general and usually only pay attention to it if i'm somewhere and it's on a big screen ;)

There's always bleach :)

And you can see my hair anytime you feel like coming round.

I'm not a big fan of many sports, I just love the atmosphere and anticipation of Melbourne Cup day. Plus I have some fond childhood memories of listening to it when I was at school, which definitely adds to the lingering fondness I have for the race.
