Bulwer-Lytton and Lack of Stargate
Jul. 16th, 2006 04:53 pmI hate the ATO. No, really. How complicated do they need to make these things! (ATO is the Australian Tax Office, for those non-aussies out there. And I still haven't got to see the new Stargate. Grrr.
In relation o my last post, I found this while poking around the internet the other night - the sentence that started it all:
"It was a dark and stormy night . . . and the rain fell in torrents-- except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness." --Paul Clifford (1830)
Interestingly, this is from the same guy who coined the phrases "the pen is mightier than the sword", "the great unwashed" and "pursuit of the almighty dollar".
I also found this entry (2005 Science Fiction winner, apparently): "Long, long ago in a galaxy far away, in General Hospital born I was, and quite happy were my parents, but when a youngling still I was, moved we did." (Don't have the author's name, sorry)
Oh, and
cloverfizz has a whole bunch of lovely PotC icons on her lj (points at icon). Somehow, they make me like the movie more...
I want my Stargate! I want it now! *Pokes Bittorrent*
