I don't like the adaptive ads on gmail. I guess I don't like them more or less than any other types of unsolicited internet advertising, but sometimes, when you aren't paying attention, it can be damn freaky to check your mail after having an online conversation with someone and find the sidebar full of ads mentioning the keywords you were just discussing. And yes, after a moment you work out its because this was an lj conversation and so the comments got mailed to your inbox, but for a few seconds you're like 'WTF?'

Anyway. On another random note, when I was aimlessly browsing through forums at work, I noticed that people had degenerated into trading 'Chuck Norris' comments. Can anyone tell me the evolution of these things? I mean... why Chuck Norris, of all people?

There is no theory of evolution, just a list of creatures Chuck Norris allows to live.

Chuck Norris doesn't wear a watch. He decides what time it is.

Chuck Norris doesn't read either. He just grabs a book, stares it down and it gives him the information he needs.

There was also a Mr T sideline, which seemed to revolved around how many fools he could pity in a given time, and what would happen in a Chuck Norris/Mr T showdown. Some people have way to much time on their hands at work :)

I have also noticed the phenonmenon. There's a person with a whole huge list of them on his door. I understand no better than you. :-(

It just seems odd that it's so widespread, and I can't think of a central catalyst for it. Of course, I haven't really looked all that hard...

No idea how the business got started, but the first I heard of it was the Chuck Norris Random Fact Generator. Apparently this later prompted the random Vin Diesel fact generator along the same lines.

And no, I don't really know why Chuck Norris either.

Thanks for the links :) Somehow, I just can't see Vin Diesel in the same league as Chuck Norris and Mr T. Maybe in 20 years, when he's stood the test of time.

I guess Chuck Norris is a good a person as any :)

I believe this is the site that started it all.

Oh, thanks! Some of them are quite clever. I particularly like this one: Outer space exists because it's afraid to be on the same planet with Chuck Norris.

I guess it's just one of those things that started at the right place and right time and took off.
