Um... I think I just bought my first car. Sky Blue Hyundai Getz, 5 door, 1.6L manual.

I would have preferred something like a Mazda 3, but this one was on sale, is more fuel efficient, does everything I need, and was $8000 cheaper. The more I think of what else I can do with $8000, the more I like it :)

Not only was it on sale (CTP, dealer delivery, and rego for free), I exercised my Mad Bargaining Skillz to get a further $500 off, and then talked the finance guy into giving me loan with 7.85% interest instead of the normal 10.2%. I am feeling excessively proud of myself.

Anyway, once I sort out a few (minor) details - the fact my license is issued in a different state to the one need to register the car in is complicating things - I shall have a car. Hopefully by Tuesday, assuming I can get time off to get the deposit sorted, etc.

All this is good, but it's taking a little while to sink in. I was only going to go for a test drive...

ETA - I now have insurance. Yay for 65% No Claim bonuses!

Awesome! Congrats!

I want my first car to be a SmartCar, but most likely it'll be a 1987 Toyota ShitBox or something. :P

Wow, there's so tiny... I've never even heard of these cars before, but apparently you can get them in Australia *goes back to staring at the tiny-ness*

I considered getting a second-hand car, although I wanted something fairly recent (3-5 years old) to try and minimise unexpected maintanence costs. But the price of fuel is going nuts over here and everyone is trying to pick up cheap small cars, so it turned out to be better value getting the new one with the 5 year warranty. Thank god for loans :)

They're all over the place here in Ottawa. Save fuel like crazy, can park anywhere you want to (more or less), and are really, really damned cute. :D Apparently they come in four-door in Germany, but that's still in the government cogs here.

The only trouble is apparently the insurance is kind of high because it's a two seater, and that puts it in the same class as 'sports car'. Bah.

You can get 4 door in Australia, according to the website.

And I've just discovered it looks like I qualify for a 65% no-claim bonus on my insurance (despite being under 25 and having never had insurance before), so now I am extra pleased. Yay for discounts!

You think you bought a car? You mean, you don't know?

Well, I have signed a contract, and left a deposit, but I haven't got finance yet (actually I have, but I want to reduce the amount and period of the loan by paying more up front, which means I need to resubmit the application on monday). So, I've said I'll buy it, but I haven't paid for it, which I guess means I don't technically own it. I think?

Congrats! It's a cute car, and that $8000 will definitely come in handy later. :)

Yeah, especially since I may have a rather expensive holiday coming up.

Oh Em Gee. A car!

Such a cute blue thing. I want to hug it. Just think, you're one step closer to getting this.

Yay for Mad Bargaining Skillz. ^^ I bet those car salesmen trembled in fear!

But not in orange, I think. Red, perhaps?

Ooh, congrats! Nothing like having your own wheels.

And I predict you'll love the hatchback. They are so much more convenient than trunks for hauling bulky stuff.

Thanks. Yeah, that was the reason I wanted a hatchback - I've tried fitting bulky boxes in the boot of a sedan, and that was not fun.

So, it's Saturday -- do you have a car now?
