One of my New Years Resolutions is to write more fic. Let's start as we mean to go on, shall we?

Title: Simulation
Author: [personal profile] lyore
Rating: G
Summary: Skywalkers' have a great many talents, but flying in simulators isn't one of them. Two drabbles, one story.
Author's notes: Inspired by the discussion on this post.
Characters:Drabble One - Anakin. Drabble Two - Luke, Wedge.

Father

“Sithspit!” Anakin jabbed viciously at the simulator’s reset. Obi-Wan would chide him for his display of temper, but Anakin felt no remorse. It’s not fair. Even Obi-Wan can fly sims better than me!

The thought of his master made Anakin glance guiltily at the chrono. He and Obi-Wan were scheduled to greet a trade delegation, but in a rare display of sympathy for Anakin’s loathing of everything political, Obi-wan had declared his apprentice’s presence unnecessary.

Frustrating as pseudo-flying was, it was still infinitely better than politics. Anakin’s hands tightened on the controls. This time, I will do better.

Son

Wedge struggled not to laugh as a deflated Luke dragged himself out of the simulator.

“I just don’t understand” Luke groaned. “It’s so easy in the air, but in the sim it’s all just random dials and dots on a screen.”

“So you’re no good in a sim – who cares? You can fly rings around the rest of us, and everyone in the squadron - and Command - knows that.”

Luke brightened slightly and Wedge clapped his friend on the shoulder. “And besides, you did beat some of the trainees!”

Luke threw his flight gloves at Wedge’s head.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Drabbles? I like short fic these days.

Star Wars?

*slides on over* Halo thar..

These were funny. OMG. I miss Star Wars. I see a marathon sometime soon in my future. Plus you totally made my day by writing two drabbles, same theme, father and son. it really highlights their similarities and differences.

Wedge for the bonus :)

Thanks, I'm glad you liked them :) And a Star Wars marathon sounds sooo tempting...

Wedge is always a bonus! *g*

WEDGE!!! I love Wedge, miss him dreadfully when I'm not re-reading the X-Wing books. (Only completely good books in the EU, they are perfect, as is Wedge, and Hobby is nice too)

LOL!

Yay! You wrote it! :D I love these little snippets. Especially the one with Luke and Wedge. Poor Luke... ;)

*adds to memories*

Well, New Years Resolutions have to have *some* use, don't they? :)

Ooh, memoried! Thanks!

Well, New Years Resolutions have to have *some* use, don't they? :)

Heh. Maybe I should try that some time. ;)

Ooh, memoried! Thanks!

Well, naturally. I love these fics. I love the idea behind them, and I love the way you managed to work in the respective relationships with Obi-Wan and Wedge. :)

OK, now you're making me blush :) I'm glad you liked the Anakin and Obi-Wan relationship - that was the drabble that really made me curse the 100-word limit!

From: [identity profile] fialleril.livejournal.com
I do like the relationships here. I think you conveyed a lot with just a few words. You hint at aspects of those relationships and let the reader see it as they will. ;)

But, should you ever decide that 100 words just aren't enough to do this fic justice, I wouldn't mind seeing a longer version. ;)

*laughs* Unless I put strict limits on myself, the simplest of concepts turns into an epic. But we'll see... *g*

From: [identity profile] fialleril.livejournal.com
Well, an epic's not always a bad thing. ;)

You say that because you aren't the one stuck writing it! :P

From: [identity profile] fialleril.livejournal.com
LOL! True enough. I have an epic of my own going, and more in mind. And yes, they take forever! So I suppose I'll let you off the hook. ;) The drabbles are fab, anyway.

Thanks! (both for the compliments and letting me off the hook - my current WIP is bad enough *g*)

I just LOVE the contrast between the drabbles - Anakin losing his temper where Luke whines a little, then laughs at himself. *huggles Luke*

From: [identity profile] lyore.livejournal.com
*laughs* Well, it wouldn't be Luke if I couldn't fit in a little whining, would it? :D I'm glad you liked them.

This time, I will do better.

All that steely determination, oooh, scary. Liked the novel idea of sims as a bridge, neat! Sending cyber-encouragement on your resolution, too.

Steely determination is one thing that Anakin has always done well, I think. Thanks for the comment - and the encouragement! We'll see how things go...
